Kris Church took the reins at Garrett Morgan in July 2026 with more than 15 years of experience in education and dedicated service to Fayette County Public Schools. She previously served as associate principal at Edythe J. Hayes Middle School since 2021.
Church joined FCPS in 2011 as a special education teacher at Southern Middle, where she served for five years. In 2016, she moved to Hayes, where she served as an achievement and compliance coach before becoming associate principal. Under her leadership team, the school was named a National School to Watch, ranked first in the district and in the top 20 among state middle schools on state accountability measures. She was instrumental in guiding their MTSS processes, Continuous Classroom Improvement, progress out of CSI status for special education within one year, and overall instructional leadership. In addition to instruction, Church began the Amazing Shake program, aligning with the district's Portrait of a Graduate, as well as IMPACT Day and Power of One to promote inclusion and belonging.
Church holds a bachelor’s degree in Management Marketing and Communications from Tulane University, a master’s degree in Learning and Behavior Disorders from Georgetown College, and an Education Specialist degree from University of the Cumberlands.
